On June 11, the Astana Opera will present the outstanding work of Kazakh musical art – national classical opera Abai by A. Zhubanov and L. Khamidi. The production will open the event program dedicated to the EXPO 2017 at the opera house. The performance will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Famous Maestro Alan Buribayev will be conducting.
“We are honored to present a bright program dedicated to such an important international event as EXPO 2017. It will be opened by a gem of the Kazakh operatic art – Abai by the great composers Akhmet Zhubanov and Latif Khamidi. We chose this work not by chance – it became a hallmark of our national art,” said Galim Akhmedyarov, the director of the Astana Opera.
The operatic masterpiece is based on the libretto by the great writer Mukhtar Auezov. The narrative is based on dramatic events from the life of the great Kazakh poet, educator and philosopher Abai Kunanbaev (1845-1904). This is the story of the romantic and tragic love of two young people – Aidar and Azhar. The theme of the struggle of conservatism and reformism is raised in this work; the bright and dark sides of humankind are clearly represented. The great Abai and his disciple Aidar oppose the ‘old world’, that is, everything that prevents progress.
