La Scala’s production on the stage of the Astana Opera House
The Astana Opera House presents the premiere of ‘Tosca’ opera in co-production with the legendary Teatro alla Scala on May 9, 11 and 12. ‘Tosca’ opera is the original production of the world’s famous theatre transferred to the stage of a new theatre. The theatrical scenery and costumes of the highest quality were made in the workshops of Milan Theatre. Now the residents and visitors of Astana have a uniqueopportunity to see the great art of Italy, the birthplace of opera.
Opera will feature famous Italian singers such as Marcelo Alvarez (Cavaradossi), a contender for the title of the so-called Fourth Tenor who will replace Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras, opera singer Anna Pirozzi (Tosca), Alberto Mastromarino (Scarpia), who began his vocal studies with the famous baritone Paolo Silveri. This opera written over a century ago is one of the most performed operas in the world. The music from this opera became popular and recognizable by the fact that it was used a lot of in the movies with the plot full of drama, betrayal, penalty, as in the opera itself.
The settings by Margherita Palli have powerful emotional promise to paint a picture of the historical events of the past century, when the French army under Napoleon invaded Italy in 1800. The historical events are clearly can be seen in the style of costumes, sketches made by Vera Marzot.
The director put the main emphasis on human passions, or rather on the story of Tosca, a singer and Cavaradossi, an artist, who became involved in politics. They became victims of despotism, torture, executions by the will of fate.
The plot of the opera resembles a modern thriller with a historical basis. Tosca, the Italian singer, the Italian patriot commits suicide, but even in the scene of death, the director was able to express the beautiful and the sublime soul of his character.
