The Astana Opera Goes on Tour to Europe

The Astana Opera will go on tour to Hungary on December 22 and 23. The company will perform in the capital – Budapest and the city of Pecs. A rich concert program will be presented at the renowned concert hall and music conservatory in Budapest – the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music (Zeneakadémia) and Pecs’ Kodaly Center – a famous concert hall named after the great Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly.


Numbers from the national and world classical repertoire will be featured for the audience.

The tour to Hungary will be taking place within the framework of the program “Rukhani Zhangyru”. In the article “Course towards the Future: Modernization of Kazakhstan’s Identity”, the Head of State initiated the project“Modern Kazakh Culture in the Global World”. Artists will perform national works, which reflect the spiritual values of the Kazakh people, the spirituality of the nation. We aim to attract the public attention to our culture, to find new viewers who will be interested in visiting Kazakhstan. The company will be presented in its entirety. I will begin with the Symphony Orchestra, which managed to achieve great success, including European and American tours, participation in international festivals and collaboration with eminent conductors, among them Placido Domingo, Eugene Kohn, Valery Gergiev and many other outstanding maestros. The Astana Opera Choir will also appear before the audience. Along with active work in opera performances, the choir has a busy concert life, promoting classical and national musical art. The collective received three major Grand Prix, two of which were won in Poland and one in China. The opera house’s pride – opera singers and ballet dancers – have gained a well-deserved international acclaim. They regularly perform at world’s best venues, take part in prestigious international competitions and always return to their homeland with bright victories that glorify Kazakhstan. They will also perform European classics, showing that the Astana Opera, being in the center of Eurasia, can work in different musical schools,” Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan, Director of the Astana Opera Galim Akhmedyarov said.

Today, the Astana Opera is the flagship of Kazakhstan’s art. It brings together the best artists and musicians from all over Kazakhstan. The company also includes international artists.

The tour program includes works by outstanding Kazakhstani composers – The Steppe Legend by T. Kazhgaliyev, M. Tolebayev’s Aitys scene, N. Tlendiev’s Alkissa, the duet of Kamar and Akhmet from Y. Rakhmadiyev’s opera Kamar Sulu, Karlygash Dance from A. Zhubanov and L. Khamidi’s opera Abai. Among other things, the list of works includes the duet of Count Di Luna and Leonora from G. Verdi’s opera Il Trovatore, Semiramide’s cavatina from G. Rossini’s opera Semiramide. The evening will feature Hungarian song There Is Only One Beautiful Girl in the Whole World. The composition Zherim Menіn to the lyrics by N.A. Nazarbayev will conclude the evening.

The singers who have conquered many world stages will take part of the concert. Among them is opera diva, the opera house’s principal soloist Maira Mukhamedkyzy – the first and only Kazakhstani soloist of the Opéra National de Paris. Her stage partners included such renowned singers as Leo Nucci, Placido Domingo, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Mirella Freni, Roberto Alagna, Marius Vlad and others. She toured with solo concerts in Beijing, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Seoul, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Budapest and Slovakia. Opera prima Saltanat Akhmetova is a winner of The Big Opera television project, a regular guest of Romance of the Romance Russian television project. The singer often tours the countries of the near abroad with solo performances. She is a finalist, winner of the special prize Klassik-Herbst Forderpreis of the International Competition Neue Stimmen (Germany, 2013). The opera house’s brilliant leading soloist Zhupar Gabdullina has won the audience of many international opera houses. According to the best bass singer in the world Ildar Abdrazakov, who performed with her in G. Verdi’s opera Attila at the famous Parisian Opera Bastille, the artist is one of the best performers of the part of Odabella in the world. Incidentally, the art of the Kazakhstani opera diva and her rare in its beauty and strength voice were also noted by the outstanding fashion designer Pierre Cardin, who was present that evening in the auditorium. Zhupar Gabdullina will present the aria of Odabella to the attention of Hungarian listeners. Remarkable tenor Nurlan Bekmukhambetov performs at Russia’s main opera house – the Bolshoi Theatre. The vocalist will present the aria of Prince Sou-Chong from F. Lehar’s operetta Das Land des Lächelns. The opera house’s soloists Malika Minisini and Bibigul Zhanuzak are preparing Jacques Offenbach’s Barcarolle.

Other bright opera performers as well as Etoiles of the Astana Opera Ballet Company will also take part in the concert: Bakhtiyar Adamzhan – a Grand Prix winner of numerous international competitions, including prestigious prize of the XIII International Ballet Competition and Contest of Choreographers in Moscow (Russia, 2017), his stage partner – principal dancer of the Astana Opera, guest soloist of the St. Petersburg Eifman Ballet Aigerim Beketayeva, as well as another principal dancer of the Astana Opera Ballet Company, guest soloist of the Opéra National de Bordeaux (France) Madina Basbayeva and others.

Principal Conductor of the Astana Opera – world-famous maestro Alan Buribayev and maestro Aidar Abzhakhanov will be conducting that evening.

The first performance will take place on December 22 in the city of Pecs, and on December 23 the artists will give a concert in the Hungarian capital – Budapest.
